As our Founder Tero said it, mushrooms are “a part of our ancient survival wisdom” and probably the best kept secret for health we have been looking for. Medicinal mushrooms contain extremely beneficial compounds for our health and are widely researched. Furthermore, we share about 40% of our DNA with mushrooms!
We have all seen some funny looking mushrooms growing in the forest. But those only account for a tiny fraction of how big the whole kingdom of fungi actually is. The amount of different fungal species has been estimated to be anything from 1 to 5 millions, and out of those, about 300 have shown medicinal properties whether immune-enhancing, hormonal balancing or brain boosting, just to name a few.
It could be said that culinary mushrooms are an aid to health but medicinal mushrooms are magic. Thus we like to call them “Superfood Mushrooms”. They contain special compounds, beta-glucans, which are able to modulate our immune system. It is important to have the immune system working effectively enough but not be overworked. Balanced immune system is essential
The Asians have used mushrooms in their daily lives for thousands of years. They are present in the west as well even though a bit behind the scenes. The medicinal mushrooms have given us many important pharmaceutical medicines from penicillin to the first statin drugs and anticancer treatments. Actually about 40 % of western medicines nowadays utilize mushrooms. Maybe it is time to start reaping these amazing health benefits in their natural, whole form?
